This is a historic picture, as it was taken on the day before we discovered that Maarten had chronic myeloid leukeamia.

Here is a series of pictures taken in the North Western USA in 2006.

We were there to visit our newborn grandson Hendrik William Smies
in the company of Maarten's father; we show some pictures of Hendrik at that time.
These include photographs taken during Hendrik's first visit to the Netherlands
in the autumn of 2006 to introduce him to his Dutch relatives.

In 2007, Maarten managed to be in Lacey WA for Hendrik's first birthday and we both went there in October.
Here are pictures from those visits.

Hendrik and his parents came to the Netherlands in 2008 to celebrate Maarten's father 90th birthday in September.
We are pleased to present a series of photographs taken at the time.

In the summer of 2009 Carolyn, Jurjen and Hendrik came to the Netherlands for four weeks.
